Part of documentary filmed at Blair

Filming for a documentary on the 50 year anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education, the Supreme Court ruling that integrated schools across the country, took place today at Blair.

Teleduction, an independent production company based in Deleware, filmed students in the hallways and interviewed members of IMPACT@Blair, a school club dedicated to integrating cultures at Blair.

Club members "presented [the film crew] with the study circle experience," said club organizer Vital Akimana. "The main goal of the study circle is to try and take in different aspects and analyze stereotypes and see how they affect students," explained Mariam Khan, another organizer of the group.

The documentary will focus on the history of the landmark decision as well as detail what has happened since. "The legacy is really what we're interested in," said writer and producer, Dan Collins. The documentary is appropriately titled With All Deliberate Speed: The Legacy of Brown v. Board.

According to Khan, IMPACT@Blair was created last summer when students met several times to discuss race. Chemistry teacher Marcy Jacobson sponsors the club and while she did not seek to become involved, she was willing to take on the role when approached. "I was actually pretty impressed they wanted to have a club like this," she said.
