Winter coaches introduced themselves to the parents of new student-athletes
On Nov. 27, Blair's Athletic Department held its annual winter Meet the Coaches Night from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. The night was split into two sessions; a general session where the parents listened to Athletic Director Rita Boulé and trainer Meghan Wilkinson talk about general policies, procedures and responsibilities of a student-athlete and group session where each coach had a separate meeting with their team.
Each winter coach went to a separate classroom and talked to the players and parents. These sessions included information on when it is appropriate to reach out to the coaches, what the parents should expect from the sport and the schedules. The parents were also given forms for the team store to buy Blair merchandise. The group sessions lasted for 45 minutes, ending at 7:45 p.m.
There are four new coaches at Blair this year. Kelly Labriola, a teacher at Key Middle School is the new swim and dive coach. Speedy Wormley and Lindsay Bumbernick, a teacher at Eastern Middle School, are new assistant coaches for indoor track. JV girls basketball also got a new coach, Courtney Mason, a teacher at Blair because last year's coach, Amy Ferguson, has become the varsity coach.
According to Boulé, the most important part of the night was having the parents meet the staff. "I think the most important part of the night is that parents get to meet the athletic staff and their kids' coaches," Boulé said. Meet the Coaches Night marks the start of winter sports and all the games yet to come.
