Oh my, how things change in a year

A year ago, varsity football was winless (like we need to be reminded). This year, the team ended that 11-game losing streak by opening the season with two staggering wins, including a 41-12 domination of a game over Northwood. Yeah. They now sit at 3-1 and are looking strong with their most positive start in decades.

A year ago, varsity field hockey was struggling to be .500. This year, they've won three of their first four games, and doing so all on the road. Bring one of those victories home, fockey.

A year ago, varsity boys' soccer peaked by their third or fourth game. This year, the team has dropped just one game through five thus far, coming in an overtime heartbreaker to defending state champions Magruder, 3-2. The playoffs start the end of October – revenge would be oh so sweet.

A year ago, varsity girls' soccer… well they were good last year, too. But this year, the girls are undefeated with a resplendent 6-0 record, including strong wins over county powerhouses Walter Johnson and Whitman. This team has the experience, talent and attitude to make it to the top.

A year ago, both boys' and girls' cross country teams struggled, churning out disappointing 1-4 and 2-3 records respectively. This year, the team has claimed wins for both genders in its first two meets – the first time in recent memory that cross country has had back-to-back sweeps.

While the girls' volleyball team still struggles, the team has looked good at times and still has a long season ahead of them.

So hopefully you understand where we are going with this. Blair sports is back on the map and hopefully deep playoff runs and championships will be the end points of all these teams' seasons. And then we move to the winter sports season.
