New Montgomery County Police Chief is Blair graduate

Montgomery County Executive Doug Duncan's office issued a press release on January 6, nominating Blair alumnus Colonel J. Thomas Manger for the position of Montgomery County Police Chief.

Manger, currently Fairfax County Chief of Police, will become the new Chief of Police in Montgomery County, pending his approval by the Montgomery County Council. Manger is a graduate of Blair, class of 1973. According to the press release, Manger also went to the University of Maryland, and graduated in 1976 with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice.

"I am extremely pleased to bring Tom Manger back to Montgomery County, where he grew up," Duncan said in the press release. "He is committed to the highest ethical standards for policing, and he has a proven record of being accountable to the public. His more than 27 years of law enforcement experience and his strong record of supporting human rights and combating bias crimes will serve the residents of this community well."

Manger has an extensive background in law enforcement and military service, and rose through the ranks of Fairfax's Police Department from patrol officer to Chief. Duncan and others spent six months interviewing candidates for the Chief's position following former Chief Moose's resignation earlier this year. During that time William O'Toole served as acting Chief of Police.
