Event to support Domestic Violence Awareness Month

The National Honor Society (NHS) is holding an old cell-phone donation drive for Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which is in October.

Phones will be given to Verizon, where they will be refurbished and reprogrammed, according to NHS Sponsor Tameica Jones. The cell phones will then be distributed to battered women in various local organizations as a means for them to reach help in the event of an emergency.

The event is a community service project for NHS, according to Jones. "We're trying to raise awareness for this problem,” she said.

Boxes for the phones have been placed in room 255, room 238 and room 160. Contact Ms. Jones in the math department for more information.
