A candlelight vigil will be held today, the one-year anniversary of the day the series of sniper shootings began. The vigil will be located at the Executive Office Building, 101 Monroe St. in Rockville, and will begin at 6:30 p.m.
During the sniper's 22-day shooting spree, there were 10 slayings. One of the sniper victims was the aunt of a Blair senior.
John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd, the two accused of the sniper shootings, are still in the midst of a trial. Prince William County prosecutors say that Muhammad's motive for the sniper shootings was his wife receiving custody of their children. The prosecutors believe that Mildred Muhammad was a future target of John Allen Muhammad.
The service, planned by Montgomery County Executive Douglas Duncan, will feature the folk singer Tom Paxton performing along with the University Park Children's Choir. In addition, there will be an interfaith prayer service. The ceremony will also include the presentation of a plaque and a tree that honor all of the victims.
Parking for memorial: Council Office Building parking located at East Jefferson and Monroe streets as well as the jury parking lot. For information, call 240-777-6530.
