Event scheduled for this weekend

The Montgomery County Volunteer Center will hold its 18th annual Montgomery County Community Service Day on Saturday, Oct. 23, rain or shine.

The Center invites people to join the organization in a Festive Rally and Civic Action Fair. The Rally will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will be held at the Executive Office Building on the cafeteria level located at 101 Monroe Street in Rockville. Breakfast will be provided and guests will be invited to speak to the group. In addition, there will be new voting machines available for those interested in experimenting with them in several different languages. The Fair will provide information especially on the West Nile Virus and on emergency preparedness.

Afterward, the community can participate in cleaning up parks, painting, planting and collecting supplies for the needy, among other various options throughout the Montgomery County area. Students can earn Student Service Learning Credit for their involvement and also help plan out a project of their own.

For those unable to participate on the Saturday event, projects will be available to complete on alternate dates. Call 240-777-2600 for more information.
