Bel Pre Elementary School reports highest lead levels yet

Five more MCPS schools tested positive for lead contamination on June 17. All 28 schools tested by MCPS so far have found lead levels beyond the EPA limit of 20 parts per billion (ppb) in at least one water source.

Bel Pre Elementary School reported the highest lead levels found yet in MCPS with 8,014 ppb, almost 500 ppb more than the previous record high found at Gaithersburg High School. Lake Seneca Elementary School, Stedwick Elementary School, Weller Road Elementary School and Whetstone Elementary School were also included in the latest results.

According to the MCPS web site, building service workers are still required to flush fountains for 15 minutes every four hours as long as schools are occupied.
