Jury to debate giving death penalty

Lee Boyd Malvo was found guilty of two counts of capital murder for his participation in the October 2002 sniper shootings last Thursday, December 18. Malvo was convicted of murdering FBI analyst Linda Franklin last fall.
The jury, which consisted of eight women and four men, deliberated for 14 hours in Chesapeake, Virginia over a two-day period before reaching their verdict at 4:15 p.m., Thursday. The defense argued that Malvo was brainwashed by John Allen Muhammad, who was also involved in the shootings. Last month, Muhammad was found guilty of shooting Dean H. Meyers at a gas station in Manassas and sentenced to death. The jury agreed with the prosecutors' point that Malvo was a willing accomplice in the crimes. The jury is now scheduled to determine whether Malvo should be sentenced to death or to life in prison without parole.
