On Wednesday, December 19, Eastern Middle School held the fifteenth annual "Main Event" in Blair's gym.

The "Main Event" is Eastern's annual wrestling tournament. According to Eastern PE/Health teacher Wendy Way, seventh- and eighth-grade students participate in a wrestling unit in their physical education classes from October to early December. After completion of the wrestling unit, interested students can choose to compete in a school-wide wrestling tournament. The 46 finalists in the tournament compete in the "Main Event."

Eastern holds the "Main Event" at Blair because the facilities at Eastern are not large enough for all of the activities involved. This is the third year that the tournament has been held at Blair.

The audience contained a group of students that either earned 4.0 GPAs or were named Student of the Month. Each of those students held a flag representing one of the 64 nationalities represented at Eastern or one of the 50 states. Eastern's chorus, led by Ms. Paula Zabel, performed "You're a Grand Old Flag."

Blair's marching band, poms and cheerleaders performed at the "Main Event." In addition to the students and staff of Eastern, 25 uniformed firefighters and a representative from the US Naval Academy were present. The Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Honor Guard presented the colors at the tournament.
