Sophomore Luisa McGarvey and junior Alex Alia had a lot in common. Both described themselves as funny and "kind of lazy." Both also enjoy watching TV, hanging out with friends and participating in sports at Blair. Alex runs track and Luisa plays field hockey and lacrosse. Luisa wanted to go to a "cute little cafe in Takoma Park," which is why we sent them to Soupergirl, located on Carroll Street on the D.C. side of Takoma Park.

The date

Alex: "Before the date, I was feeling a little bit nervous. I've never been on a blind date before."

Luisa: "I was a kind of nervous because I didn't know if it was going to be awkward or not. I didn't know him beforehand, but I knew that I'd seen him around. I thought he was pretty cute."

Alex: "When I first walked in, she was sampling soup. I got there second; I was a little late."

Luisa: "I was there 15 minutes before him. I was with my friends but then they left a few minutes before he came. I was trying the different kinds of soups when he got there. I said 'Hi, are you here for the date? I'm Luisa.' We shook hands. We ordered and sat down."

Alex: "I ordered chili. It was okay."

Luisa: "I had chili."

Alex: "The conversation was a little awkward at first, but it got less awkward as the conversation went on."

Luisa: "My favorite part was the talking. We talked about school, our classes, assassins, sports, food and friends. He was nice, kind of quiet, but friendly."

Alex: "She was funny, good sense of humor, personable. She was nice. We kind of had similar personalities, but she was more talkative. We were both athletic. She does lacrosse and I do track. Also, we talked about Ms. Thurman because she was her field hockey coach and my NSL teacher. I thought it was interesting that she was in the ski club at Takoma Park."

Luisa: "We talked the whole time. We both do sports. He used to be in CAP and I'm currently in CAP. "

How it went

Alex: "There was not real chemistry, but there was the friendship kind."

Luisa: "We didn't go anywhere after because I had to go meet up with my friends."

Alex: "We said goodbye, and went our separate ways. We kind of exchanged numbers because she gave me hers because she asked me to send her the picture. "

Alex and Luisa haven't seen each other at school so far, but both agree that a second date is unlikely. Still, both had a great time getting to know each other.
