Cash prizes for winners and runners-up
Students who attend high school or live in Montgomery County are eligible to enter an original short story in the F. Scott Fitzgerald student short-story contest.
The winner will receive $250 and be able to speak briefly about their work at the Ninth Annual F. Scott Fitzgerald Literacy Conference award ceremony in October. The winner will also have their story printed in the 2004 conference program. Three runners-up will be given $100.
Entries must be typed, double-spaced, unpublished and be between 1,500 words and 3,000 words. The short story should have a beginning, middle and end in which the protagonist solves a conflict or achieves new understanding. Authors can choose any topic.
All short stories must be postmarked by July 9 with a cover sheet that includes the author's name, address, telephone number, writer's school, grade and an English teacher's name. Entries will not be returned.
All short-story entries should be sent to F. Scott Fitzgerald Student Short Story Contest, c/o Rockville City Hall, 111 Maryland Avenue, Rockville, MD 20850. Winners will be notified the week of Sept. 20.
