Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Kennedy Townsend and other local leaders came to Blair today, visiting classes and speaking about educational issues.
Accompanied by Montgomery County Public Schools Superintendent Jerry Weast, MCPS School Board Member Patricia B. O'Neill, gymnast and Blair alumna Dominique Dawes and others, Townsend spoke to NSL and ESOL classes, met with sixteen of Blair's seventeen Intel Science Talent Search Semifinalists (including the three finalists).
In Jeanne Tremonti's third-period NSL Government class, Townsend fielded questions from students on topics such as the state's mental health program, pedestrian safety and academic tracking.
Townsend, Weast and Dawes spoke to students in Joseph Bellino's third period ESOL class, then proceeded to the Magnet computer lab to meet with Blair's sixteen Intel Science Talent Search semifinalists.
While Townsend was posing for a photo with Blair's Young Democrats Club next to the main office, a freshman trying to get into the picture was apprehended by Townsend's security personnel and was turned over to state police. He was not charged.
