The Student Government Association (SGA), with administrative support, held a leadership conference with approximately 100 athletic captains and club leaders during fourth period on Friday.

During the first portion of the assembly, which was held in the auditorium, Principal Phillip Gainous implored students to take a more active role in creating a safe and orderly school environment. "We need our leaders in this school to step up so we can have the kind of school we all can be proud of," he said.

Next, students broke into four groups to discuss and brainstorm solutions to problems at Blair and generate ideas about current issues. Topics included trash and graffiti, artwork and student led artistic projects, tardiness and attendance (hall sweeps) and security relations.
According to SGA first Vice President Brian Koss, the SGA will use the student input to create an action plan, which they will present to administration for approval.

Administrator Linda Wanner was extremely pleased with the proceedings and hoped to have two or three more conferences later this year.

While discussing the current issues with the school, Gainous mentioned that tardies were the leading cause of freshman failures.
