State excuses Hurricane Isabel's two emergency days

The last day of school for Montgomery County students is once again June 15 after the state granted a waiver excusing the two emergency days caused by Hurricane Isabel in Sept. Students are advised to follow the exam schedule originally printed in the student planbook.

The Maryland Board of Education had extended the school year by two days, moving the last day of school from June 15 to June 17.

The Montgomery County school calendar included 184 instructional days for students, while only 180 are required by the state. Four emergency weather days are built into the schedule. Schools have been closed a total of six days this year; two were due to Hurricane Isabel; four were due to snow.

Even with those six emergency days taken, Montgomery County has still met the state's requirement for 1080 hours of instructional time for elementary and middle schools and 1170 hours for high schools.

The exam schedule is posted below.

June 7: Review Day, Periods 1 through 8
June 8: Exams, Periods 1 and 2
June 9: Exams, Periods 3 and 4
June 10: Exams, Periods 5 and 6
June 11: Exams, Periods 7 and 8
