Blazers allow just nine points in two sets to win

MAR 24, NELSON H. KOBREN MEMORIAL GYMNASIUM --

The Blair coed volleyball team decisively defeated Kennedy High School today in two sets.

The Blazers simply outplayed the Cavaliers of Kennedy, allowing only nine points throughout the entire match.

Tough play by seniors Jimmy Taing and Andrew Lee and consistent play by junior Amanda Hsiung helped the Blazers hold off Kennedy's last-minute comeback attempt, in which they scored five straight points - more than they had the entire rest of the game - in the last five minutes of the match.

With this win, the Blazers improved to 2-0 in what looks to be a potentially successful season.  Hsiung, an all-county volleyball player, reflected on the strong start.

"We have a really good team this year.  We added a couple key players, like [Senior] Phil Repicky," said Hsiung.  "I feel like we are playing together as a team, and that's a good sign."

The Cavaliers' inability to return Blair's serves gave the Blazers many chances to rack up several points in a row.  Capitalizing on Kennedy's mistakes, Taing had two kills to cap off Blair's 15-2 start to the match, a margin the Blazers never looked back on.
