Contest gives students chance to create music

The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus will be stationed in front of Blair on the morning of Thursday, May 5 for the culmination of the National Education Association's (NEA) "Words of Oneness" contest.

Six high school students will be chosen to spend a day on the bus to create a song with the bus's high-tech equipment. The students will be chosen based on the essays, poetry or lyrics they submitted that dealt with issues of race. The contest was created in partnership with the group Oneness to promote racial unity through music and to promote literacy and interest in the arts.

The John Lennon Educational Bus tours the country and allows students to use its facilities to learn more about the creation of music. It has teamed up with Oneness and the NEA to combine the interests of all three groups.

The bus will be closed to the public during recording hours but will be on display later in the day at the NEA's headquarters.
