Motivational tunes to get Blazers through the mid-term grind

It's almost time for semester exams and Blazers are beginning to feel the stress that inevitably comes at the end of second quarter. There is good news! Inspiring, up-beat songs can help any Blazer beat the studying blues, and both classic and new pop jingles fit the bill. These terrific tunes might even help that slacking student to work hard and ace their exams.

"Firework" – Katy Perry
Interestingly, SCO playlist regular Katy Perry brings a new maturity to her song "Firework." The singer is known for her nonsensical yet fun lyrics, though this song's message inspires teens to believe in themselves, a good message to send anyone worried about exams. As an added bonus, the unique vocals are incredibly fun to sing along to while studying. This upbeat tune can both motivate and offer a good, short distraction if a dance party ensues.

"Eye of the Tiger" – Survivor
This classic song by the 80s rock band "Survivor" is both intense and moving. The iconic guitar track can make one feel like they are the star of an intense action movie or strutting down the street. This song's theme is one of survival, which is necessary to aid any overwhelmed student. If nothing else, "Eye of the Tiger" is a great for a a good head-bobbing session.

"All I Do Is Win" – DJ Khaled ft. Ludacris, Rick Ross, T-Pain and Snoop Dogg
"All I Do Is Win" is a hit with an inspirational message, something rarely found in typical club songs. The chorus is about – you guessed right – winning. Put your headphones on and listen to this when you are preparing for that AP Physics midterm. The featured rappers don't add much to the song, though, and the catchy chorus could be a problem while studying as it frequently forces the listener to put his/her hands in the air.

"The Climb" – Miley Cyrus
While Miley Cyrus's vocals are not the greatest, one can't deny that this song has a clear and strong inspirational message. The mountain Cyrus talks about could easily relate to the mountain of textbooks one must climb to reach their goal. Like most of the songs on this list, it's also fun to sing along to, even if it is just to mock her singing.

"Stronger" – Britney Spears
Almost any 90s pop throwback is good to set a happy studying mood, but "Stronger" is one that packs an extra punch of inspiration. Being strong is necessary to doing well on any test, and Britney Spears uses her powerful pop voice and a synthesizer to motivate students.

"I Will Survive" – Gloria Gaynor
This disco hit from the 70s is one that has inspired both the young and old to stick it through no matter what. Gloria Gaynor's vocals are exceptional, as is her message. Like "Eye of the Tiger," survival is the main theme and it is more explicitly said in Gaynor's tune. When one listens to this song, they can't help but dance and feel great for a solid eight minutes.
