Fundraiser scheduled for Friday evening in the SAC

Blair's literary arts magazine, Silver Quill, is planning a beneficiary concert for Friday, Dec. 12. The event is scheduled to take place from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in the SAC.

"[The concert] is a fundraiser for the magazine," said Silver Quill sponsor Valerie Josenhans. "Every year we raise part of the money to pay for the printing costs."

Students will be charged $3 to attend.

Acts scheduled for the concert include performances from several student bands and an appearance from the Urban Dance Movement, said senior Christian Brown, editor-in-chief of Silver Quill.

Students will be reading poetry between band performances, said Brown. "We're encouraging anyone who comes to bring poetry," he added, adding that anyone is welcome to read in-between acts.

According to Josenhans, preparations for the fundraiser included "spreading the word, getting fliers up, making sure the space was approved and finding people to perform." Due to time restraints, Silver Quill did not have time to hold auditions for the concert, said Brown. Instead, staff members were encouraged to talk to bands to find performers.

According to Josenhans, this is the first year that Silver Quill is holding a concert. "We've never done anything like it before," she said. "The staff came up with the idea. They thought it'd be a good way to have some fun and raise some money."

Brown is hoping that the concert will raise about $200 to $250.
