The Instrumental Music concert, featuring Blair's Symphonic and Honors Jazz Bands and Orchestra, originally scheduled for this coming Thursday, March 17, has been postponed until further notice because of a scheduling error.
According to Blair Instrumental Music director Dustin Doyle, there was some confusion after a conversation at a Blair Band and Orchestra Patrons (BBOPs) meeting regarding moving the concert to tomorrow night, Tuesday, March 15, in order to avoid a conflict with CAP Showcase Night on Thursday.
Doyle stated that although his personal calendar listed March 17 as the concert day and the band students were told that the concert would be on March 17, the official literature and calendar listed March 15 as the concert date. He said that the mix-up was a simple error in communication. "I keep two calendars for myself, and I consider myself a pretty organized person, but in this case, some wires just got crossed," Doyle said.
Doyle also says that he was alerted to the discrepancy in the calendars last Thursday and was contacted by several parents, who asked him not to move the concert to this coming Thursday. After taking an informal poll in his classes and realizing that several students from each ensemble would be unable to come to a Tuesday night concert and keeping in mind that a PTSA meeting was scheduled for the same night, Doyle decided that it would be prudent to put the concert off until a later date, in order to give both students and parents adequate notice. "We had the support of [Principal] Gainous for Thursday, and we had good availability [of the space], but to make everyone's lives easier, we decided to reschedule," Doyle stated.
Doyle said that he is now looking to schedule the concert some time in April and will announce the new date soon.
