Teachers featured in The Washington Post Style section

Former Blair teachers Cate Kastriner and Sarah Lanahan were featured in this past Sunday's The Washington Post Style section. The two were selected for this week's "Life is Short: Autobiography as Haiku" feature.

Kastriner wrote the entry, which discusses the pregnancy of Lanahan, her life partner. Lanahan gave birth to Sophie Kastriner on Feb. 13, after the piece was written.

In the autobiography, Kastriner admitted to feeling fear and excitement during Lanahan's pregnancy. She also said that the couple received more stares during the pregnancy than "usual."

Kastriner, in her piece, expressed hope that people will try to understand her and Lanahan's choice, rather than simply stare. "I smile back at their bewildered and sometimes disgusted faces," she said. "I want them to know we are happy."
