Just Married doesn't quite tie the knot

Question: What do you get when you cross a giggly rich blonde beauty who has a planned future with a cute sports-obsessed radio host barely making a living? Answer: A typical chick flick. But despite the underdeveloped storyline and a predictable ending director Shawn Levy turns Just Married into a laugh-out-loud comedy.

Tom Leezak (Ashton Kutcher) and Sarah McNerney (Brittany Murphy) are young newlyweds whose perfect honeymoon plans in Europe go awry. The movie begins with the two going their separate ways after they arrive home, and Tom starts reminiscing their relationship: girl loves boy, boys loves girl, girls parents disapprove, a wealthy more suitable businessman is in love with girl, girl and boy fight, they make-up. Sound familiar? Probably, because Just Married is just like any other teen movie except this movie doesn't have a twist in the plot, or a sub plot, or an insightful character, or even just an attempt at changing the basic story line of teen movies.

On the honeymoon Tom and Sarah find themselves in the worst of situations from the very beginning. On the plane to Europe Tom's foot gets stuck in the toilet. Upon arrival in the five star hotel room Tom, once again creates a ruckus when he tries to plug an American plug into a European outlet and causes a blackout. They get kicked out of the hotel and drive through a blizzard for miles until they go off the road into a pile of snow where they are unable to dig themselves out until morning. The movie continues with the most absurd situations, however, Levy deserves credit for making these situations comical.

Real-life couple, Kutcher and Murphy, have great on screen chemistry, and both actors bring their characters to life, although that isn't saying much considering there wasn't much to the characters. Kutcher was a stubborn and often rude and condescending, while Murphy played a ditzy rich art history major. The movie was filled with grunts from Kutcher and high-pitched squeals from Murphy.

Just married is nothing out of the ordinary, but it is a perfect movie to see if you want to sit back, relax, and laugh at other people's stupidity.
