"Stage crew has been such a fun experience. I’ve met so many new people and it’s just been…a big highlight of high school.”

The behind-the-scenes aspects of theatre may be less well-known, but they are as important as the acting taking place front and center. Stage crew encompasses everything from costume and set design to lighting and sound and is truly its own art form.

For sophomore Meera Kochar McCabe, stage crew has been an opportunity to learn more about the world of theatre while developing valuable new skills.

Inspired by her older sister, who was a part of Blair theatre during her own time at the school, Meera joined stage crew at the start of the 2021-2022 school year. She felt that stage crew seemed “super interesting and…wanted to try it out.”

Since joining, Meera has “definitely learned new things and broadened [her] creativity.” Participating in a variety of Blair productions has served as a creative outlet for her, as it has enabled her to learn more about and experiment with many different types of art.

Perhaps most importantly, however, are the friendships she has developed over the year. Through the Blair program, Meera has become close with people that she might not have even met without stage crew.

Her experiences backstage have opened up new worlds for Meera.
