Humans of Blair: A hook, some yarn, and a lot of determination

“If you have an idea of what you want to do but you feel like… you're gonna get negative feedback, just go with your instinct because you never know what the outcome can be.”

Senior Rochelle Bremmer started crocheting when she was six years old. Since then, crocheting has been a big part of her life. When Bremmer crochets, she doesn’t have a plan or a pattern. She just goes with the flow and follows her instinct to make beautiful pieces such as a crocheted self-portrait and a mermaid outfit for last year's spring fashion show. Her advice to aspiring artists? Don’t let other people hold you back, don’t conform to their expectations; just go with your instinct and trust in your skill. 

Over the past four years, Bremmer has made a name for herself. She started her own business and started selling her projects in her freshman year. Not only does she crochet but she also makes jewelry and other mediums of art which she sells on her Instagram @rb._creations. Her sophomore year was when she started creating her own homecoming dresses and that has been a tradition she has carried on through the rest of her high school career. So, keep an eye out for a senior wearing a crocheted dress at this year's prom because it just might be Rochelle Bremmer.
