On a sunny, slightly breezy Sunday, Blair's unofficial ultimate frisbee team "Home Cooked" took the field against Thomas Jefferson High School, a fellow magnet school from Virginia. The game started late and lasted long, as these two well-matched teams battled for supremacy. Ultimately (har har), Blair emerged with a 13-9 victory.

Home Cooked stepped onto the field with confidence after last year's match with Jefferson ended in a decisive 7-2 Blair victory. However, the Blazers soon found that they had underestimated their adversaries. In the words of senior co-captain Daniel Keller, "They were better than we expected."

Despite initial concerns, Home Cooked came out on top because of a effective long game on offense and defense by the whole team, with notable performances by senior co-captains Keller and Camden Lee. The duo connected multiple times on imaginative distance throws, keeping victory comfortably out of reach for Jefferson, who placed second in the Northern Virginia region last year.

While Jefferson had obviously improved since last year, the Blazers came to play and held their own. "They played tough, but we played tougher," said Lee, who is happy about the win but still feels there is room for improvement. "We dropped a lot of passes early on, the day could have been over much earlier without those mistakes."

Home Cooked plays again 1 p.m. next Sunday at Sligo Middle.
