Track meet continues after postponed by rain

After rain postponed the second part of the Montgomery County track and field championship May 11, the meet continued at 3:30 p.m. on May 12. The girl's team placed sixth overall in the county.

According to head coach Heather Amell, the points for this placement came mostly from junior Halsey Sinclair, who placed first in the mile with a time of 5:07 minutes and first in the two mile in 11:01 minutes. She also placed fourth in the 800 m run, finishing in 2:20 minutes. Junior Ashlyn Sinclair was right behind in the 800, finishing only two tenths of a second later. Ashlyn also placed third in the mile with a time of 5:15 minutes.

Two other Blazers gained ninth place in their respective events. Sophomore Louis Varella placed ninth in the 400 meter in 52.3 seconds, while Junior Queen Momo placed ninth in the long jump with a distance of 14 feet 6 inches.

With a young team, Amell has a lot of hope for the future. "I can see us in the next couple of years being right up there," Amell said. This year, the boys' track team finished the season with a 4-1 record, while the girls remained undefeated.

Montgomery Blair runners will next compete in the 4A West Regional meet at Churchill High School May 17 and 18.
