Girl's soccer struggles against Springbrook

Girls soccer defeated Springbrook 2-1, tonight, scoring an exciting goal in the last 10 seconds of the game.

Sophomore Gillian Gower attempted to score about five minutes earlier but was fouled by the goalie. She came through right as the clock was winding down with a shot that went straight past the goalie. The girls stayed undefeated but ended their defensive streak of zero goals scored on them when Springbrook scored a goal in the first half.

Springbrook was not dominating but was close to it. The Blazers were very disappointed in their unsuccessful first half but knew their shutout streak had to end sometime. "The game was frustrating but it came out good in the end," said Gower.

Blair Social studies teacher and coach, Bob Gibb, said that the shutout streak was a "distraction" and so he was glad they were scored on by a team like Springbrook instead of Whitman. He thought the game was a wake up call for the team. "[The game] was important because we haven't been behind all season and [the girls] need to remember that that's not a good feeling."

Junior Nicole Gray proved her spot as a top scorer when she turned up the heat in the second half by tying up the game. Co-captain Beccah Bernard was the true force behind that goal as she came racing up the line, crossing it directly in front of the goal for Gray to kick in. Bernard was the biggest force on the defense, tonight, completing her passes and getting to the ball before her opponents.

Springbrook proved to be a tough opponent for the Blazers, tonight, showing them that they are not completely infallible. "We came back down from the clouds we had been in, but it was good," said junior Julia Gabriel.
