Girl's soccer secures sixth win

Girl's soccer kept their undefeated, un-scored on record tonight, winning 4-0 against Northwest with a mediocre first half and a spectacular second half.

The Blazers record is now 6-0-1 but they did not play their best in the first half. There was one goal by co-captain Jennie Breads but for the most part, Northwest was being more aggressive and beating them to the ball.

The second half was a totally different story. Co-captain Sara Achrati scored two easy goals and junior Nicole Gray, one. Senior Lorpu Kpadeh crossed the ball across the goal leaving the goalie on the left side and the goal wide open for Achrati to touch in the second goal.

Senior Kristina Cammen was playing defense but managed to have an assist of her own on Gray's goal. Cammen thinks the girls were not playing up to par in the beginning of the game but stepped it up for the second half. "I think we were playing really sloppy the first half," she said. "But we got our passes together second half," added Cammen.

Coach and Blair social studies teacher, Bob Gibb, agreed with his girls in that he thinks the the team was not playing their best in the first half but rose above and beyond afterwards. "In the second half, it was like bang, bang, bang," said Gibb about Achrati and Gray's goals.

The girls have now clinched their winning season but Gibb said that this is just the beginning. "We are only getting started," he said. The girls are now ranked fifth in the Montgomery Journal, which Gibb thinks is great for the girls. "Our record can't be much better and the pride of our defense is great," Gibb said. The team has to "keep doing what their doing" to continue winning against tough teams such as Whitman, Churchill and BCC, in their upcoming games.
