Girls' LAX goes out in a blaze of glory

In their first round playoff game, Blair's girls' lacrosse team failed to exact revenge on the Wootton Patriots, who beat the Blazers 11-8 tonight, ending the Blazers' post-season after only one game.

In front of an enthusiastic crowd, the Blazers took on the Patriots for the second time this week and, for a second time, lost in a closely played game.

The lead flip-flopped more than once over the course of the game but Wootton came out ahead by winning loose balls, gaining more possessions and "controlling the tempo of the game," according to coach Mike Horne.

The Blazers did have many nice scoring opportunities and junior Lauren Finkel led the offense with a hat trick.

Both teams played intensely and aggressively, in one of the roughest games Blazer Stadium has seen all season. The referees gave out more than five yellow cards to players on both teams. Two Patriot players received two yellow cards each and were consequently thrown out of the game. "The refs let the game get out of hand early on," said Horne. "They were trying to get control."

Horne was proud of the way the team played in the final game for the seven graduating seniors. "Even though it was a loss, we had a great game to send [the seniors] off," said Horne.
