By defeating Sherwood 46-26 (Lady Blazers Dominate Warriors) on Feb 4, the Blazers improve to 7-9 for the season, having bounced back from their disappointing 0-4 start with improved interior defense, passing, rebounding and perimeter shooting.
In addition, the team is better than its 7-9 record indicates, as the team has averaged 52.4 points per game, nearly 4 points better than its opponents' average (48.7 ppg) vs Blair. The Blazers also have had two unfortunate overtime losses, against Whitman and B-CC.
The team seems to be constantly improving, not just this season, but from its 1-22 record in the 1999-2000 campaign, to a 3-20 record the following season and 9-14 last year. With six games remaining, three at home and three on the road, against opponents with a combined record of 43-44, Blair may easily elapse last season's record.
Although Coach William Lindsay is dissatisfied with the team's record, he believes that the team is close to being successful. "It's been somewhat disappointing because, in terms of wins, I was hoping that we'd be a little better off. It's a fine line between where we are and where we want to be," he said.
Junior center Emily Ramsay feels that the team has had its ups and downs. "It was sort of like a roller coaster. We would have our good games and our bad games," she said.
Ramsay added that the team also has trouble playing competitively for all 40 minutes. She said, "We just need to play the entire game, not just half of it, for the remainder of the season."
Blair hopes to finish the season with its first .500 record in four years by winning at least four of the final six games of the regular season. All teams in the division will make the playoffs, so, no matter how they finish the regular season, the Blazers have a chance for postseason success.
