Girls' basketball rocks B-CC, is on a roll

Rebounding from an 0-4 start, the girls' basketball team has come a long way. Tonight, with a 47-25 win over Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School, the Blazers are looking in peak form, right in time for their rematch tomorrow against rival Springbrook.

Leading the team in scoring was sophomore Emily Ramsay, with twelve points. Ramsay has been especially dominant of late, as she was the team's high scorer in four of the last six games.

Ramsay, along with post players Caroline Kuttner, a sophomore, and Erin Ivey, a senior, have been out rebounding and out hustling their opponents. Junior Colby Chapman, noting Blair's dominance in the paint, said, "[Our post players] took their time and concentrated. They stepped up today."

At the other end of the offensive spectrum, junior Lara Dean and sophomore Mackenzie Robinson, both guards, showed their outside touch, hitting the game's only three pointers. Dean, who handled the point and controlled the game's tempo, netted seven points.

During the game's first quarter, however, any sign of offensive production was totally absent, as the teams combined for six points. Blair held the lead at 4-2.

Strong showings in the second and third quarters enabled Blair to break the game wide open. With eight minutes left in the game, the Blazers had upped their lead to an insurmountable 38-11.

Tomorrow, the girls travel to Springbrook High School, hoping to exact revenge on the team that beat them 47-37 earlier in the season. With their record at 6-7 now, the Blazers have an opportunity to reach a .500 winning percentage, which they have been unable to do in their last two seasons.
