Gainous makes safety announcement

Principal Phillip Gainous made an announcement over the P.A. system at 2:00 Friday afternoon, discussing safety and other school issues.

Gainous said that after events like Columbine and September 11th we must renew our efforts for safety. He said that there will be a Code Red drill sometime in the next month, and that students "must take it seriously."

Beginning Monday, Gainous said, Blair's I.D. policy will be taken strictly enforced. Students without their I.D.'s will be "rounded up."

The principal also reminded students that they are not permitted in the back halls of the school or the second or third floors during their lunch period.

Gainous took this opportunity to announce that 1700 Blair students, over half of the entire student body, earned at least a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) in the first marking period. He said that he'd ideally want 100 percent to achieve, but was glad that 55 percent of the student population is performing well. Gainous encouraged students with lower GPA's to seek help from their teachers.
