Football drops first game of season

The Blazers suffered their first loss of the season on Friday September 28, at the hands of the Seneca Valley Screaming Eagles at Blazer Stadium. Before the loss, the Blazers were 2 and 0 and looked sharp in each of their victories. The Blazers lost 42- 8 to a strong Seneca Valley team who ran and the passed the ball efficiently.

Seneca Valley opened the game with a long kick return to the Blazer 22 yard line. Screaming Eagle Erik Yancy punched in first touchdown of game two minutes into the first quarter. However the Eagles missed the extra point. The Blazers were unable to answer with any type of offense.

The Blazers had trouble doing the little things that they easily did early in the season. Blair had bobbled punts, bad snaps, and missed tackles. These things hampered the Blazers throughout the night. "Tonight we showed that we were not at [Seneca Valley's] level yet. We still need to work on our tackling, but we did show that we have a team," said Blair Coach James Short.

Seneca Valley's offense worked like clockwork. Perfectly executed bootlegs exposed holes in the Blazers secondary. At the half the Eagles were up 29 –0. The Blazers lone touchdown was a scamper by junior backup quarterback Arie Piesert with 4 minutes left in the game.

Next week Blair will face a run oriented Blake team led by senior running back Jesse Epps. Their monstrous offensive and defensive lines will work to wear down the Blazers throughout the game. The Blake lineman are lead by senior right tackle Bryan Hebron, who is 6'6'' and weighs 300 pounds.
