Fall fashion: the return of sweater weather

There's something about the crisp autumn air that draws everyone to the warmest and coziest of his or her clothes. Fall is fondly associated with football games, pumpkin spice lattes and a shift in wardrobe. Here at Blair, Blazers are looking to bring back many of the trendy looks from last year.

A walk down Blair Boulevard is all you need to see the reemergence of leggings and boots, one of fall's most popular pairings. While many tend to stick to plain old black leggings, Blazers are sporting all kinds of boots. These include Timberlands, Dr. Martens and UGGs.
And let's not forget the abundance of sweaters and cardigans that usually accompany this pairing. Blazers wear everything from tight-knit cropped sweaters to large, fuzzy and oversized sweaters. Others opt for a different look, throwing on a cardigan over crop tops or tanks tops. But these looks are seen mostly with girls.

With thrift shopping becoming more popular amongst teenagers, sweaters and cardigans are even easier to find at a cheap price. Unique and Value Village are among the most popular thrift stores in the Silver Spring area because you can always find that old book you want and that perfect dress you need. Some of the less populated thrift stores are the Salvation Army Family Store in Takoma Park and the Urban Thrift Store in Kensington; it's better to shop at these stores if you're looking for something specific.

What are the guys wearing? Most are sticking to their khakis and jeans, which are year-round wardrobe staples for most. These are sometimes paired with graphic t-shirts or plain colored t-shirts that can easily be worn under a jacket or hoodie of some sort. Others choose to wear plaid or stripe printed shirts or very casual button downs, fit for the school environment. Shoes are arguably one of the most important parts of an outfit for some guys, even when it isn't fall. Many keep it casual, sticking to Vans, Converse or regular sneakers.
What do they both have in common? Flannels have made a big impression on both guys and girls this past year. Their soft fabrics, variety of color schemes and relatively low prices make them go-tos for anyone, especially when the weather becomes chillier.
For those who decide to wear jackets, North Face is easily one of the most popular name brands worn by teenagers because of their quality and different styles.

But these are just the fall basics. Some Blazers choose to get more creative with their looks. If you're lucky, you can catch a glimpse of knee socks over leggings, shorts over tights and clashing prints in the hallways. These fashion choices have more to them than you may think. Wearing knee socks over thin leggings keep legs warm, as do tights under shorts. Clashing prints are a bold statement of confidence and individuality. Guys are also starting to pair shorts with uniquely printed crew socks or clash unlikely prints and colors.

It seems like most Blazers are sticking to what worked for them last year even though there are some exceptions. But remember, we're only three weeks into fall, which leaves a lot of time for Blazers to bring in new trends and toss out the old.
