The annual Eastern Middle School (EMS) Main Event wrestling competition took place in Blair today, Dec. 21. The P.E. hallway and the area surrounding the gym were closed to Blair students from the beginning of 5A lunch until the end of the day to accommodate participating students.

This is the 18th annual Main Event held at Blair, according to Main Event Director and EMS Physical Education teacher Jerry Seidman, who gave a warm thanks to the Blair Physical Education Department and Blair staff for making the event possible. This year, 117 boys and 106 girls participated in the EMS wrestling tournament, and finalists participated in the championship round at Blair today.

The Blair Marching Band, cheerleaders and Pom Squad all made appearances in the introductory ceremonies. The Eastern Parade of Nations, the Parade of Champions, the Parade of States and the John F. Kennedy High School ROTC Color Guard followed the Blair groups. The crowd also saw performances by the EMS bands and choruses.

Blair math teacher and Head Wrestling Coach Jake Scott and Silver Spring International Middle School Physical Education teacher Adam Seidman refereed the matches.

Blair gym classes held in the main gym were moved to the small gym, according to Physical Education teacher Cynthia Changuris.
