Diversity in a diverse population

On December 12, 2003, Silver Chips Online posted an article, "Governor Ehrlich is justified in restricting gay marriage," by Danielle Foster. The article defended Ehrlich's decision to deny re-defining marriage and extending marriage rights to homosexuals.

Given the diversity of the population at Blair, it comes as no surprise that the article would receive rather negative comments, as exemplified in one reader's words. "I'm disappointed that this antiquated point of view has been published in Silver Chips… Ms. Foster should look into simple definitions such as that before writing and publishing an opinion [that] lacks coherence and a cognizant point due to problems such as those. I am willing to tolerate opinions contrary to my own and I believe in everyone's right to their own opinion but if their opinion is based on a basic fallacy, they should research and learn in order to build a better foundation for their belief."

Our philosophy, listed on the About Us section of the page, is, "Silver Chips Online is dedicated to representing, defending, informing, and entertaining the Blair community."

While the views represented in the article may not concur with neither the vast majority of the Blair community or the staff of Chips Online, the truth of the matter is, the opinion presented exists- had it not, the article would not have been written. "The point of the article is to present both sides of the argument… a lot of people believe [in the given opinion]," says Online Staff Writer Vivek Chellappa.

Another reader posted a similar comment. "What the [censored] is wrong with this writer?? People should be able to choose whoever they want to marry, same sex or not. I can't believe this person goes to Blair, time for you to leave!! We have so much diversity here, and its not like everybody is religious, so why must we all follow the ways of the church/bible? Forcing your views onto others is ignorant and selfish. Let people choose for themselves, don't choose for them."

Editor-in-chief KC Costanzo points out that Chips Online wishes to give every view a chance. "We want to reflect every aspect of the issue."
