Students wait in rain while cause is ascertained

A smoke detector outside the weight room in the gym hallway necessitated an evacuation today, Oct. 11, after it was hit by a ball and went off, according to Safety Committee Sponsor Mark Curran.

After the alarm went off at about 10:20 a.m. during third period, the school was evacuated as required whenever the alarm triggers unexpectedly. A member of the fire department then visually inspected the smoke detector in question and let students back into the building after reviewing security tapes from the area and confirming that the detector was set off by the ball, Curran said.

The alarm was repaired as soon as students were allowed back into the building, and according to Curran, repairs on the system were likely finished by the beginning of 5B.
