Congressman, Delegate speak to Blair students

The recently elected Delegate from Maryland's sixteenth district, who is a Blair graduate, and the recently reelected Congressman from Indiana's first district came to talk to students in Blair's CAP program on Friday Nov 8 about the legislative process.

Delegate Bill Bronrott, who attended Blair in the early 1970's, represents the Bethesda area in the Maryland General Assembly. This past Tuesday Bronrott was reelected for his second term in the district.

"The reason I got involved is to simply make a difference," Bronrott said. "I hope all of us in our own ways, big or small, can leave the world better than we found it."

Congressman Pete Visclosky, who grew up in Gary, Indiana was just elected for his tenth term after first being elected in 1985.

"I have two favorite parts of the job, one is the range of people I meet," he said. According to Visclosky, he has meet people living in homeless shelters to the president of the United States, and "everything in between." He said he also gets to learn something everyday because there is always someone to teach and something to be taught.

Bronrott and Visclosky talked to the students about passing legislation and effective ways to win support, in preparation for a mock Congress the students will be participating in next week.
