The new passes will be color-coded by floor

Beginning next week, teachers will be given new hall passes to hand out to students. The passes will be color-coded based on the floor a teacher's classroom is on, and portables will have their own color. This way, security will have an easier time figuring out whether or not a student is where they are supposed to be.

Under the current system, students can almost go wherever they want in the building, whenever they want, without seeming too out of place. "It's almost free-rein. Kids go where they want to go, when they want to go. Hopefully, [the new system] will stop kids from walking floor-to-floor and being out of class for an extended period of time,” Darryl Cooper, Blair's security team leader, said.

Cooper hopes that these new passes will minimize conflict between students and security. “It will be easier for security to tell if a kid is on the wrong floor or where they are going without necessarily accosting them and asking where they are going,” he said.
