This month, the Coalition of High School Democrats is holding a meeting in the Montgomery County Education Association, with hopes of raising political awareness among Montgomery County students.

On February 18, 2002 at 7:00 pm, seniors Matt Yalowitz and Nora Toiv, co-presidents of the Student Democratic Association, are organizing the event with hopes of getting students involved in the 2004 campaign, along with creating more democratic clubs in Montgomery County schools. "Schools are a great opportunity to get students involved in local politics," says Yalowitz.

The Coalition of High School Democrats is a student run organization, and hopes to draw a large amount of participants. "We are trying to attract students with energy and commitment and channel their energy for the election," says Yalowitz of the upcoming meeting.

The Coalition, along with the Blair's Association, hopes that by encouraging students to become active, they will build a strong student base. "The job continues after the elections" Yalowitz explains, "we need students involved in politics year-round"
