Is Chris Wilcox Maryland's future?

When you're on a team with Lonny Baxter and Juan Dixon getting noticed can be a struggle. Sophomore Chris Wilcox has not only been able to get noticed but in some instances steal the spotlight from the All-Americans. With his spectacular dunks and flashy personality getting attention has become easier than ever. This year Wilcox has found a way to work himself into the starting lineup and become an intricate part in an awesome Maryland team.

Now as the teams starting power forward and possibly their most explosive player Wilcox has made a name for himself in the college ranks. In the last regular season game against Virginia Wilcox was deemed "the finisher" and the name is fitting. He has had an endless number of put back jams and alley-oop slams all season.

As of late there have been rumors floating around about Wilcox possibly hanging up his college high tops and heading to play with big boys. Wilcox has stated on record that he is not leaving but there is still a chance he just might change his mind. In June Wilcox could easily be a late first round pick, based on his athletic ability and upside. As the wise old men say the NBA isn't going anywhere so what's the rush.

An extra year in college could show the pro scouts that he can be a leader without Baxter and Dixon. Also he has a very good chance to win the Player of the Year award next season. If he can lead Maryland to a respectable finish next season his stock in the draft will soar and with J. Will out of the picture he could go number one. If Steve Blake stays they'll be one of the best tandems in the nation.
