Blazers continue their dominance with win over Northwood

BLAZER STADIUM, Sept. 19, –

Coming off of a shutout against Quince Orchard, the boys' varsity soccer team (3-2-0) defeated the Northwood Gladiators (1-2-0) by a score of 3-0. Senior Kevin Fallet scored two goals for the Blazers.

Fallet's first goal was a tap in off of a 40 yard free kick from senior Dominic Ventimigila. The second goal was a chip in from a pass by junior Simon Amato. The third and final goal was a breakaway goal from Fallet.

The down side to the game was multiple missed opportunities late into the game. Coach John Haigh wasn't saddened by these missed chances. "I'm happy we got the opportunities,” said Haigh. Haigh attributed the missed chances to the adrenaline caused by playing a rival.

The gameplay was very physical from the start and the fierce rivals were going at each other and not holding back. Due to this roughness, junior Stallon Ndawula received a yellow card for tripping a Gladiator defender. Players argued with the referees multiple times, and coaches were constantly angered by missed calls.

Coach Haigh believed the game was just another match in the scheme of things. "They're not in our division or even 4A [the grouping for playoff tournament]. We won't see them again this season,” Haigh said.

Fallet was satisfied with the team's victory over the Gladiators. "I'm really happy,” Fallet said. "It's a big game for us and it means a lot.”

The boys' varsity soccer team will play their next home game on Tuesday, Sept. 27 against Churchill at 7:00 p.m.
