Volleyball comes from behind to claim victory
Junior Amanda Hsiung served 10 straight points in Blair's impressive 16-14 come from behind victory over Walter Johnson High School in the final game of a two-game sweep.
After falling behind the Wildcats 14-6 in the second game due to a lack of communication and poor setting, the Blazers displayed a solid combination of blocks, sets and spikes to make a spectacular comeback. Hsiung and junior Carey Bartlett contributed key digs to keep the rally alive.
The first game went much the same way, with W.J. jumping out to an 8-2 lead. Despite loosing junior Rebecca Cho when she rolled her ankle on the first serve of the game, the Blazers battled back, getting clutch spikes from junior Simone Viger and junior Emily Ramsay. Blair only lost serve twice on their 13-0 rally and won the game 15-8.
Walter Johnson looked impressive at times, blocking and spiking their way to early leads. However, during both of Blair's comebacks the Wildcats showed poor communication and an inability to get key returns or digs.
Blair shared these problems, showing confusion and shoddy passing at the beginning of both games. Bartlett believes that the team was not in sync early on. "We were having a lot of trouble communicating," she said.
Viger attributes the Wildcat's early leads to a key player on the other team. "They had one server who was really good and our defense couldn't pull it together to handle her," she said.
This win gives the team a 2-0 record and bodes well for the future. Viger sees a drastic improvement this season "Last year if we were in a rut like we were, we wouldn't have pulled ourselves out. This year our team is good enough to do that," she said.
