Girls' varsity soccer wins 10-0 over Panthers
BLAZER STADIUM, Oct. 10-
The girls' varsity soccer team (7-2-2) scored ten goals while giving up none against the Paint Branch Panthers (5-6) on Wednesday night. Senior Jamie Kator and junior Lisa Bianchini each finished with a hat trick.
The offense was rolling from the start. Ten minutes into the game, Kator sent a corner into the middle, which Bianchini controlled and tapped in. Two minutes later Kator got her second assist and Bianchini got her second goal with a lead pass to the top of the box. Bianchini received the pass and shot it past Paint Branch's Nicole Money.
Kator scored her first two goals minutes later to give the Blazers a four goal lead. After that, there was no looking back for the Blazers. Three other players chipped in with goals while Bianchini and Kator finished up their hat tricks.
The offense was the highlight of play for the Blazers. Blair has now scored 19 goals and held its opponents to none in the last three games. "We did very well at finishing our opportunities," Kator said. "It felt pretty good."
Blair was able to move around some players later in the game, putting defender Rachel Smith at forward, where she scored twice, and both Kator and Bianchini on defense. "We had a little bit of fun," head coach Robert Gibb said. "They were excited to play different positions."
While Blair's offense had flashes of brilliance, its defense has been its strong point all season long. The Blazers have only given up multiple goals in a game once in their eleven matches this season, and last night they recorded their seventh shutout of the season.
This shutout went to goalie Sadie Isakower, and Blair was able to rest some starters and injured players. "We still have some players getting healthy," Gibb said. "We were able to sit them out and give some other people playing time."
Gibb was pleased with the game and is already looking forward. "We had no injuries, we won the game and now we move on to the next one," he said.
The varsity girls' soccer team will play its next home game on Wednesday, Oct. 19 against Blake.
