Blair goes down fighting as Vikings send them home

OCT 30, WHITMAN--

The Blair boys' varsity soccer team lost to Whitman High School tonight, 4-2, in a disappointing end to a very successful season. The Blazers finished second in the division with an overall record of 10-6.

The game was played well by both teams, but Whitman's speed and organization outweighed Blair's individual talent. Blair had as many opportunities for scores as Whitman did, but they couldn't finish the ball with the effeciency that the Vikings players could.

"When you play teams like Whitman, you gotta convert your chances," junior midfielder Jack Eisen-Markowitz explains, "and we didn't. They were just fundamentally better."

Blair's first goal came midway through the first half, as senior team-leading scorer Dennis Salgado blasted an unbelievably gorgeous rocket from outside the box that sailed through the Whitman goal keeper's outstretched arms and into the corner of the net. The goal was definitely Sportscenter Top Ten material.
