In tonight's senior game, Blair's girls' lacrosse team fell to the Wootton Patriots 9-7. After an evenly matched first half, the Blazers failed to get the ball out of the defensive end of the field and the Patriots pulled away with a win.
In the last regular season game of their high school careers, senior co-captains, Mairead Hunter, Ariel Wilchek and Beth Gula all contributed goals.
However, for the majority of the game, the Blazers were stuck at the wrong end of the field. "As a team, we did not convert on our possessions," said assistant coach Kathryn Ingraham.
Despite valiant efforts, Blair's offense failed to make the most of its limited scoring opportunities. "When [the defense] did get the ball up the field, the offense didn't capitalize," said coach Mike Horne. The Blazers were further hindered by junior Lauren Finkel's absence for much of the second half due to an injury.
In their first round playoff game on Thursday May 13, the Blazers will get an opportunity for revenge against the Patriots. "If you lose by two, you should be able to win by two," said Ingraham. Horne hopes that by "getting back to basics" the Blazers will come out with a win on Thursday.
