Blair loses to Paint Branch 7.5 to 10.5

OCT. 7, INDIAN SPRINGS COUNTRY CLUB—

The Golf team lost to the Paint Branch Panthers in a new style of match play. The game score was 7.5 to 10.5. The Blazers' record remained at 8-9-1 for the season, as this match did not count for the season.

The match format was each Blazer golfer played against a Paint Branch golfer. Each golfer played nine holes in sets of three holes each. If two of the three holes were won, the winner gained a point for his team. If they tied, both teams earned a half a point.

The Blazers' top five golfers all tied their opponents, earning the team 7.5 points. Unfortunately, this was not enough to match the Panthers' 10.5 points, which were earned through five ties and a victory.

Blair was rather disappointed with the results. "We are really disappointed because we feel we are a better all round team than Paint Branch. We expected to win, but we didn't," said junior Danny Gillen.

The game did not count for any records and, according to Coach James Schafer, the team was simply out there to have fun. "We had a lot of fun today. [It was] fun to have a different style of match play. [We are] looking forward to the County Scramble," said Schafer.

Senior Neil Hofman was bumped up to the three spot for this match. Hofman believed this game was similar to the season opener against Paint Branch. "We started the season the same way [we played this game]," said Hofman.

The season finale, the County Scramble, will be played next Wednesday.
