Blazers dominate Cavaliers

OCT 8, BLAZER STADIUM—

The Blair field hockey team thoroughly defeated Kennedy today, 3-0.

Maintaining possession of the ball for the majority of the game, the Blazers relentlessly pressed the attack. Blair's defense was most impressive though: play rarely strayed from Kennedy's side of the field and co-captain Anna Benfield didn't face a single shot on goal.

Controlling possession allowed Blair numerous offensive opportunities. The Blazers' onslaught on goal resulted in large part from its steady passing, a marked improvement over that in past losses. Getting a quick lead, Caitlin Garlow and Julie Spatz scored early in the first half, each on assists from Julia Penn (who finished with 3 assists). Sizable 2-0 lead in hand; Blair was able to keep pressure on Kennedy throughout the half.

The Blazers kept up a steady assault during the second half too, though their intensity faltered slightly midway through. The Cavaliers never capitalized on this though, and after sweeper (the furthest back defensive position) Leah Passman's goal (also on a Penn assist) late in the second half, the game was effectively over.

The Blazers only fault lay in their inability to get shots on goal, but this was overcome by the sheer depth and relentlessness of their offensive assault.
