Blair beats Blake in an enticing game, 11-10
APRIL 23- MONTGOMERY BLAIR HIGH SCHOOL
James Hubert Blake High School kept Blair on its toes throughout the eight inning game. Blair did not fail to give hits when needed, and that is what gave Blair the victory in the extra inning, 11-10.
Blair was not at its best physically. Pitcher Emma Simson was sporting a sore finger. The sore finger was the cause of her having a "shaky performance," according to manager Kevin Lumpkin. Junior Jennofer Sindall slid hard to home plate in the bottom of the seventh, and for a few moments laid dazed on the plate.
Although Blair did not play their best defensive game, they kept their heads up, and pulled through for the victory. Sindall was one of the major factors in the game. Sindall, who went four for four at the bat and had four RBIs (runs batted in) admits Blair did not display their greatest defense. "It wasn't our best defensive game," she says, "but we pulled it off."
Blair dominated in the first three innings with a 5-1 score. Blake tied the score at the top of the fifth, putting Blair on an edge.
Blake took the lead at the top of the seventh, making the score 10-9. Blair tied the game in the bottom of the same inning, forcing an extra inning.
At the top of the eighth, Blair's defense increased, and became top notch, rendering Blake scoreless. Blair's winning score is credited to junior Lily Hamburger. Hamburger hit the ball to center field, sending in two runs for the win.
Sindall praises the team's alertness, and expectations in the eighth inning. "I'm overwhelmed that everyone stepped up," Sindall says. "I knew Blake was a good team." According to Sindall, "We had to be the better team."
