Boys' tennis beats B-CC 5-2

The boys' tennis team won another Division I match today 5-2, which made their season record 6-2. Blair doubles teams dominated the courts and won all of their matches while singles players senior Micheal Price and freshmen Hailiu Yang overcame difficult B-CC players.

With Blair's strong, dependable doubles teams giving the Blazers three quick wins, the match was up to the singles players to bring in the victory. Number one singles player Micheal Price had his first Division I victory today, and number three singles player Hailiu Yang brought in yet another hard fought, three-set win for the team.

Singles players Gordon Su and Jason Liu lost today. Su believed their mentality was down and that they weren't as confident and competitive as they should have been. He also believes the Blazers had lost a few winnable matches earlier in the season by not realizing their greatness as one of the best teams in the county.

Unlike last year where Ngbea put an emphasis on playing many matches during practice, the Blazers' practices this season consisted of many drills, something a few players believe has been inadequate in getting the players used to playing hard matches. This change along with a slightly worse season record caused Liu to lose some of his self-assurance from previous years.

After a close match over Quince Orchard last week, the Blazers worked on returning serves and stroking the ball, which doubles player Eric Su believes helped him play consistently throughout his 6-0, 6-4 match.

The weather contributed to the Blazers success. Although they had uncommonly hot weather today, most Blazers were unaffected by it and played to their ability. Unlike many recent matches, there was hardly any wind today, which helped to improve the Blazers' control over the ball.

The next match is on April 21 at Wootton.
